The 2005 version of The Amityville Horror is a horror movie directed by Andrew Douglas, starring Ryan Reynolds, Melissa George, and Jimmy Bennett. The film is a remake of the 1979 classic horror movie of the same title, which was based on a book by Jay Anson. It tells the story of a young couple, George and Kathy Lutz, who move into a beautiful house in the town of Amityville with their three children. However, they soon discover that the house has a dark history and is haunted by terrifying supernatural forces.

The movie opens with an introduction to the DeFeo family, who lived in the house before the Lutz family moved in. One night, the eldest son of the DeFeo family, Ronald, killed his parents and siblings with a rifle while they were sleeping. The Lutz family moves into the house shortly after the murder, but they are unaware of the tragic events that took place there.

The Lutz family is excited to start their new life in Amityville, and the house seems perfect in every way. However, strange things start happening shortly after they move in. The youngest daughter, Chelsea, starts talking to an imaginary friend named Jodie, who is described as a young girl with pig-like features. The family hears strange noises throughout the house, including footsteps, slamming doors, and voices. The temperature in the house drops suddenly, and they discover large hoards of flies swarming in the basement.

As the days pass, the supernatural activity in the house becomes more intense and frightening. George begins to experience a change in his personality, becoming more irritable and aggressive. He becomes obsessed with chopping wood in the middle of the night and spends long hours in the basement, digging up old belongings.

Meanwhile, Kathy becomes increasingly concerned about the safety of her family and seeks help from a local priest, Father Callaway. Father Callaway tries to help the family by performing an exorcism on the house, but it only seems to make things worse. The family becomes more isolated and desperate as they realize that they cannot escape from the evil spirits that haunt their home.

Throughout the movie, Ryan Reynolds delivers a powerful and believable performance as George, portraying his descent into madness and desperation with skill and conviction. Melissa George also gives a strong performance as Kathy, the concerned and protective mother who tries to keep her family safe.

The special effects in the movie are impressive, with a good mix of practical and digital effects that create a convincing and creepy atmosphere. The sound design is also excellent, with eerie noises and a haunting musical score that add to the tension and horror of the film.

The Amityville Horror is a well-made and engaging horror movie that will keep you on the edge of your seat. The movie is not for the faint of heart, as it contains several scenes of violence and graphic imagery. However, if you are a fan of the horror genre, this movie is definitely worth watching.

The Amityville Horror is a 2005 horror movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 30 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 5.9 and a MetaScore of 33.
