Set in 16th century Florence, The Affairs of Cellini weaves a story of love, deception, politics, and art as seen through the eyes of renaissance artist and sculptor, Benvenuto Cellini. At the beginning of the movie, Cellini (played by Fredric March) is introduced as a talented yet erratic artist who is often found carousing in the local tavern with his friend Ascanio (played by Frank Morgan). When his noble patron, the Duke of Florence, threatens to terminate their agreement unless he completes a statue of Perseus within a year, Cellini is forced to put aside his distractions and focus on his art.

It is around this time that he meets the beautiful, but married, Duchess of Florence, Duchess Isabella (played by Constance Bennett). At first, Cellini is hesitant to get involved in a scandalous affair with a married woman, but soon finds himself smitten by her beauty and wit. Their romance is complicated by the fact that the Duke is suspicious of Cellini's intentions towards his wife and begins to question his loyalty.

As the deadline for the completion of the statue approaches, Cellini finds himself in the middle of political intrigue involving the French ambassador and his son, who is smitten with Isabella's sister. The Duke suspects Cellini may be involved in this plot to bring down his rule and orders that the statue of Perseus be destroyed.

The tension builds as Cellini races against the clock to complete the statue in time to save his reputation and maintain his loyalty to the Duke. The culmination of the story includes a thrilling scene involving the unveiling of the completed statue.

Overall, The Affairs of Cellini is a captivating tale set in a richly detailed renaissance backdrop. The performances by the three leads are impressive, particularly the charming and roguish portrayal of Cellini by Fredric March. The film also boasts magnificent sets and costumes that transport the viewer back to a bygone era. While at times the pacing may be sluggish or the dialogue overly flowery, the film nevertheless succeeds as a lush and romantic drama that will captivate audiences.

The Affairs of Cellini is a 1934 comedy with a runtime of 1 hour and 19 minutes. It has received moderate reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 6.0.
