Metaphors, magic, and illusions are the hallmarks of the 1993 film The Act In Question, filmed in Argentina. It deals with the popularity and eventual infamy of Miguel, a thief. He finds a book which teaches him about "the act in question", which is the ability to make things disappear. Miguel's relationship with books changes dramatically, to the point where he prevents the people around him, including his wife, from reading books. They cannot even think about them. He uses this power to hold sway over the entire city he lives in, in an authoritative manner, where only what he says and does is the rule of law.
