Thayi Kanasu is a heartwarming Kannada film released in 1985, directed by V. Somashekhar and featuring an impressive star cast including T.N. Balakrishna, Shankar Nag, and K.N. Bharathi. Set against a backdrop of love, sacrifice, and the universal bond between a mother and her child, the movie connects with audiences on an emotional level.

The film revolves around the life of Muthu (T.N. Balakrishna), a sincere and hardworking man who falls in love with a beautiful village girl, Parvathi (K.N. Bharathi). Their blossoming romance eventually culminates in marriage, and they settle down in a quaint village. Despite their meager means, Muthu and Parvathi lead a content life, hoping for a brighter future.

Their happiness, however, is short-lived when Parvathi becomes pregnant. Due to unforeseen circumstances, Muthu is compelled to leave his wife and village in search of a better job in the city. Intent on providing a comfortable life for his family, Muthu leaves Parvathi in the care of her mother-in-law, promising to return soon.

As fate would have it, while Muthu is away, tragedy befalls Parvathi. She loses her mother-in-law, leaving her all alone to shoulder the responsibility of her growing belly. The challenges of carrying the child and managing household chores become overwhelming, but Parvathi remains resilient, holding on to the hope that Muthu will return soon.

During this difficult period, Parvathi encounters Ramu (Shankar Nag), a compassionate and kind-hearted man. Ramu, understanding her plight, offers a helping hand and becomes a pillar of support for Parvathi. Their relationship evolves into a deep bond of friendship, even though Ramu is aware of Parvathi's situation as a married woman eagerly waiting for her husband's return.

Thayi Kanasu beautifully captures the struggles and sacrifices Parvathi endures for the sake of her unborn child. Despite being trapped in a web of circumstances, she courageously perseveres, embodying the true essence of motherhood. The movie highlights the strength and resilience of a woman, showcasing her ability to face challenges head-on.

The narrative is enriched by the stellar performances of T.N. Balakrishna, Shankar Nag, and K.N. Bharathi. T.N. Balakrishna delivers a powerful portrayal as Muthu, perfectly capturing the internal conflict of an individual torn between his duty towards his family and the pursuit of a better life.
