Temporary is a 2013 Iranian drama movie directed by Behnam Behzadi. The film explores the socio-economic issues in the Iranian society and focuses on the lives of three people whose paths cross when they are all searching for a way to improve their lives. The movie follows the life of Afsaneh (Nasim Kiani), a divorced mother who works as a nurse at a hospital. Afsaneh struggles to make ends meet and provide for her son. Her ex-husband has stopped paying child support, and she is left to manage the household expenses on her own. Afsaneh is desperate to earn more money, but job opportunities are scarce, and she is forced to take on various temporary jobs.
One day, Afsaneh meets a taxi driver named Saeed (Peiman Naimi). Saeed is also struggling financially and trying to provide for his family. He is a loving father and husband, but his difficult financial situation puts a strain on his relationships with his family members. Saeed and Afsaneh form a friendship and try to help each other out by finding new jobs and opportunities.
The third character in the film is Mrs. Bahman (Pooneh Parsayi), an elderly woman who lives alone and is looking for someone to take care of her. She hires Afsaneh as her caregiver, and Afsaneh soon becomes an important figure in her life. Mrs. Bahman is kind and generous, but also lonely and isolated. She finds comfort in Afsaneh's company and begins to share her life story with her.
As the movie progresses, the three characters begin to rely on each other more and more. They form a bond that exceeds the boundaries of their socio-economic differences. However, their lives are still far from easy. They face numerous obstacles and challenges, including financial struggles, cultural norms that limit their opportunities, and interpersonal conflicts.
Temporary is a movie that shines a light on the struggles of working-class people in modern-day Iran. It depicts the difficulties of finding stable jobs and financial security, especially for women and divorcees. The film also explores the themes of loneliness, aging, and the importance of human connection.
The performances in the movie are outstanding, especially by Nasim Kiani, who carries the weight of the story on her shoulders. She portrays Afsaneh as a strong, resilient woman who refuses to give up on her dreams despite facing numerous setbacks. Peiman Naimi also delivers a compelling performance as Saeed, who is torn between his obligations as a provider and his desires for a better life.
Overall, Temporary is a thought-provoking film that provides an intimate look into the lives of everyday people in Iran. It is a story about human resilience, the power of friendship, and the importance of empathy and compassion. The movie may be slow-paced at times, but it rewards patient viewers with a poignant and moving narrative.
