Taxi Taxie is a delightful Bollywood romantic comedy from 1977, starring Amol Palekar, Zaheera, and Reena Roy. The movie tells the story of a young taxi driver named Mangal (Palekar) who is struggling to make ends meet. He ferries passengers around Mumbai in his rickety old taxi, dreaming of one day owning his own taxi company. One day, Mangal picks up a beautiful young woman named Mohini (Zaheera) who has just arrived in the city. She is looking for a job and Mangal offers to help her. He uses his connections to find her a job as a nurse, and they become close friends.
Mangal soon discovers that Mohini is engaged to be married to a wealthy businessman named Ranjit (played by Jagirdar). However, Mohini is not in love with Ranjit and is only marrying him because her family is in dire financial straits.
Mangal is secretly in love with Mohini and tries to win her heart. He takes her out on dates and even helps her family out financially. However, Mohini is hesitant to break off her engagement with Ranjit and eventually leaves Mumbai to get married.
Heartbroken, Mangal decides to leave his taxi driving job and start his own taxi company. With the help of his friend Shekhar (played by Asrani), he manages to become successful and wealthy.
Several years later, Mangal runs into Mohini again. She is now a widow and a single mother. Mangal decides to help her out and offers to marry her. However, Mohini believes that it would be unfair to ask him to take on the responsibility of raising her son. She decides to leave Mumbai again, but not before confessing her love for Mangal.
Taxi Taxie is a heartwarming and entertaining movie that showcases the struggles and triumphs of everyday people. The performances by the lead actors are excellent, especially Amol Palekar who brings a charming innocence to his character.
The music by Bappi Lahiri is catchy and memorable, with the song "Dekho Dekho Dekho" becoming an instant hit. The screenplay by Sachin Bhowmick is well-written, with a good balance of comedy, drama, and romance.
Aside from the main plot, the movie also features several subplots involving Mangal's friends and family. One subplot involves Shekhar trying to impress a girl named Kalpana (played by Ranjeeta Kaur) by pretending to be wealthy. Another subplot involves Mangal's sister (played by Aruna Irani) falling in love with Shekhar.
Overall, Taxi Taxie is a fun and enjoyable movie that will leave you smiling. It's a must-watch for fans of classic Bollywood cinema.
