Tales of Poe is a horror anthology film that was released in 2014. It is based on the works of legendary horror writer Edgar Allan Poe, and includes three of his most famous stories: "The Tell-Tale Heart," "The Cask of Amontillado," and "Dreams." The film features three female leads: Caroline Williams, Debbie Rochon, and Adrienne King, who each star in one of the three segments. The stories are all linked by a framing story, in which Poe himself (played by American Idol finalist James Durbin) is shown writing his famous tales in a garret apartment.
The first segment, "The Tell-Tale Heart," stars Caroline Williams as a woman who has committed a gruesome murder and is now constantly haunted by the sound of her victim's beating heart. The story follows her descent into madness as she tries to hide her crime from the authorities, and features some truly creepy scenes of her talking to herself and trying to drown out the sound of the heartbeat with music.
The second segment, "The Cask of Amontillado," stars Debbie Rochon as a woman who plots revenge against a man who has wronged her. She invites him to a wine-tasting, where she offers him a drink of what she claims is a rare and expensive bottle of Amontillado, but which is actually poisoned. The story is a classic Poe tale of revenge and betrayal, and Rochon gives a chilling performance as the avenging victim.
The third and final segment, "Dreams," stars Adrienne King as a woman who is tormented by recurring dreams of a terrifying figure with a distorted face. She seeks the help of a psychiatrist, who puts her under hypnosis to try and uncover the source of her nightmares. The segment takes some unexpected twists and turns, and features some truly surreal and scary dream sequences.
Overall, Tales of Poe is a well-crafted horror film that pays homage to one of the greatest horror writers of all time. It combines classic Poe themes and imagery with modern filmmaking techniques and features some great performances from its female leads. It is definitely not for the faint of heart, but horror fans will find plenty to enjoy in this anthology of terror.
Tales Of Poe is a 2016 horror movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 59 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 3.8.
