Tales From the Hood 2 is a horror anthology film from 2018 that serves as a sequel to the 1995 cult classic Tales from the Hood. The film features four short stories, all of which are interconnected by a framing narrative. The stories are framed as morality tales, and each one is accompanied by a speech from the film's host, Mr. Simms, played by Keith David.
The first story is titled "Good Golly" and is about a young woman named Chela (Alexandria DeBerry) who is obsessed with a racially insensitive doll named Golly. Chela is given the opportunity to meet the creator of Golly, and she is shocked to discover that he is a racist who believes in the superiority of the white race. Chela must make a choice between her love for Golly and her own principles.
The second story is titled "The Medium" and centers on a struggling artist named Miss Marie (Jasmine Akakpo). Miss Marie discovers that she has the ability to communicate with the dead, and she uses her gift to create a lucrative business. However, when she is hired to communicate with the dead son of a wealthy businessman, she learns that some spirits are more dangerous than others.
The third story is titled "Date Night" and follows a couple named Mr. and Mrs. Robinson (Bryan Batt and Vanessa Bell Calloway) as they go on a date to a Halloween party. The party is hosted by a mysterious woman named Countess (Tales from the Hood franchise creator Rusty Cundieff), who invites the Robinsons to participate in a game of truth or dare. The game quickly turns deadly, and the couple must fight to survive.
The final story is titled "The Sacrifice" and is about a group of college students who perform a ritual to resurrect a man who was lynched many years ago. The students are shocked when the man actually comes back to life, but they soon learn that there are consequences to their actions.
Throughout the film, Mr. Simms weaves a thread between each story, urging the characters (and the audience) to learn from their mistakes and make better choices. The film tackles issues such as racism, greed, and the consequences of past actions, all while delivering plenty of scares for horror fans.
Overall, Tales From the Hood 2 is a fun and entertaining horror anthology that delivers on both scares and social commentary. The stories are well-written and well-acted, and the framing narrative ties everything together in a satisfying way. Fans of the original film (as well as fans of horror anthologies in general) are sure to enjoy this sequel.
