Sweet Sixteen is a horror film that was written by Erwin Goldman and produced and directed by Jim Sotos. The movie features Bo Hopkins, Susan Strasberg, Don Stroud,
Dana Kimmell, Aleisa Shirley and Glenn Withrow. The story begins with teen Marci Burke (played by Dana Kimmell) who is the first one on the scene of a crime where a local teen boy is found covered with multiple stab wounds. Her father is sheriff Dan Burke (played by Bo Hopkins) of the small and sleepy Texas town where not much has been happening. Marci peppers her father for all of the gory details. She then funnels this information to all of her classmates.
They are all also keeping an eye on the gorgeous new girl in town, Melissa Morgan (played by Aleisa Shirley). Apparently, she was known as the last one to see the dead boy alive. She also happens to be attracting a great deal of male attention, given her beauty.
Melissa is very pretty but also very quiet and does not seem to be making many new friends, particularly since she had befriended the boy who is now deceased. Nonetheless, the busy body Marci and her brother Hank (played by Steve Antin) decide to befriend her in an effort of solidarity.
They are then invited to Melissa's sweet sixteen party, giving her a hankie as a gift. This confuses the girl because it really doesn't seem like the kind of gift to give someone at this type of party.
As time goes on, the teens spend some time socializing. However, things get more complicated as more people are stabbed and killed, inexplicably. Melissa becomes a prime suspect, given that she is always the last to see those who are dying alive. The town, however, suspects a Native American called Jason Longshadow (played by Don Shanks). However, the sheriff is more intent upon using actual facts to solve the case.
Sweet Sixteen is a 1983 crime movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 30 minutes. It has received moderate reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 5.1.
