Suyamvaram is a Tamil language Indian movie that was released in the year 1999. Directed by a group of directors including K Balachander, Vasanth, Sunder C, and many others, this movie was a multi-starrer and featured some of the most prominent actors of the Tamil film industry at the time. The movie starred Abbas, Bhagyaraj, Aishwariyaa Bhaskaran, Prabhu Deva, Karthik, Suvaluxmi, Roja, Kushboo, and many more.

The word Suyamvaram translates to ‘Self-choice’ and revolves around the theme of arranged marriages. The movie starts with a wealthy business tycoon named Viswanathan (played by Manivannan) planning a mass wedding for his seven daughters, who are not only from different regions but also from different religions. He wants to fulfill their dream of getting married in the presence of all their family members and friends. However, he faces financial constraints and decides to conduct the marriages in a low-key manner. This is where he asks his business partner to help out, and they both come up with a plan.

The primary objective of the plan was to create a situation where Viswanathan's daughters would marry seven brothers- Muthu (Abbas), Ganesh (Bhagyaraj), Prabhu (Prabhu Deva), Raghavan (Karthik), Sundar (Sathyaraj), Babu (Parthiban), and Anbu (Karan). To undertake this, Viswanathan and his partner decided to find a common ground of interest that would bring the seven brothers together. The idea turned out to be cinema, and the rest of the movie revolves around the brothers' journey, which finally leads them to meet their respective brides.

The film opens with the arrival of Muthu, a custom furniture maker from a small town, who arrives in Chennai to attend the wedding of Viswanathan's elder daughter. While attending the wedding, he meets the other six brothers, and the following scenes feature the brothers getting to know each other, along with some humorous situations that light up the mood of the movie. Despite several hurdles and challenges, the brothers eventually come together to fulfill their responsibility of marrying the seven sisters.

The movie takes a comical and humorous approach to the whole concept of arranged marriages, which is typical of South Indian films. However, it manages to drive the point home, that the success of a marriage is not dependent on the family's wealth or the social status, but on love and mutual respect. The message is conveyed mainly through the dialogues and interactions between the lead actors.

The songs in the movie were received well by the audience and helped to maintain the tempo of the film. Music was scored by prominent music composers Deva, Karthik Raja, Bharadwaj, and many others. The dance performances by Prabhu Deva, in particular, were widely appreciated.

The film was shot over 100 days and had a budget of around 8 crores, which was quite a large sum for an Indian film at the time. The opening weekend saw a terrific response, and the movie went on to become a box office hit. Although the critics might have had reservations about the predictable storyline, the film received excellent reviews for the performances of the lead actors, the music, and the message conveyed.

In conclusion, Suyamvaram is a significant and remarkable contribution to the Tamil cinema industry, and its unique storyline and presentation made it a movie that people still remember to this day. Although it is a typical family drama with a predictable ending, the movie stands out due to the fantastic cast, the dialogues, and the overall fun factor of the film. The movie also shows a glimpse of the Indian culture of arranged marriages that were still prevalent in many parts of the country at that time.
