The film Superpower takes an uncompromising look at the foreign policy, economic planning, and military action of the United States since it rose to become one of the most powerful nations in the world at the end of World War II. The topics of the film range from the various military excursions America has committed in the name of national security to current legislation for that same cause that threaten to undermine basic civil liberties.
Over the course of Superpower the viewer is exposed to what may be surprising historical facts regarding American actions, why citizens of other nations view America as an aggressor seeking global dominance through military and economic actions, and interviews with various figures who were either involved in those policies or have been vocal about these matters for years or even decades.
Despite the subject matter, Superpower avoids being a 'conspiracy theorist' film about how dangerous government secrets are and instead focuses on the facts and trends that has been America's doctrine in dealing with the world for most of the last century. The viewer is left with an understanding of facts alone and is left to draw his or her own conclusions from the material presented.
Superpower is a 2008 documentary with a runtime of 1 hour and 59 minutes. It has received mostly positive reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 7.1.
