Suits on the Loose is a lighthearted teen comedy released in 2005. It follows two best friends, Justin (Ty Hodges) and Tyler (Brandon Beemer), who are troublemakers in their hometown of Gilmore, Idaho. The movie opens with Justin and Tyler getting into trouble with the law once again. Their frustrated parents decide to send them to a religious boot camp in Idaho's Sawtooth Mountains. Hoping to escape the miserable experience, the two friends concoct a plan to sneak away from the camp.
In their escape, they stumble upon a small town where they decide to hide out for a while. They soon realize that the town is in dire straits as its only industry, a potato chip factory, is facing bankruptcy. The two friends, seeing an opportunity to prove their worth and win favor with the town residents, hatch a plan to turn the fortunes of the town around.
What follows is a hilarious and heartwarming story of Justin and Tyler's efforts to help the town, forge new friendships and also deal with their own personal issues. Justin, for example, has to deal with feelings of abandonment and rejection from his father who left his family years earlier. Tyler, on the other hand, has to confront his fears about leaving his hometown and his comfort zone.
The movie is filled with colorful characters who bring the story to life. These include a love interest for Justin in the form of Claire (Allison Lange), the daughter of the potato chip factory owner, and a slew of quirky townspeople who are brought together by the boys' efforts.
One of the standout elements of this movie is its portrayal of religion. The boot camp that Justin and Tyler attend is run by religious authorities and there are several references to faith throughout the film. However, the movie does not come across as preachy or exclusive, instead it highlights the importance of compassion, generosity, and community building.
The movie does suffer from some pacing issues and the storyline can come across as simplistic at times, but these are minor quibbles in the grand scheme of things. The humor, charm, and heart of the film are more than enough to carry it through.
Overall, Suits on the Loose is a fun and uplifting movie that should appeal to teenagers and young adults. It's a great choice for a lazy afternoon with friends or a family movie night.
