Steel, a 1997 action movie starring Shaquille O'Neal, Annabeth Gish, and Judd Nelson, follows the story of a military weapons designer, John Henry Irons (Shaquille O'Neal), who seeks to use his talents for good after witnessing the destructive power of his inventions. The story is set in Los Angeles and starts off with John Henry Irons working on new weapons for the military with a colleague named Susan Sparks (Annabeth Gish). However, after witnessing one of their weapons being used by the enemy, Irons realizes the destructive power of his creations and walks away from his job at the company.

Soon after, John Henry takes refuge in a community center where he meets a group of kids who are trying to make the best of their lives despite living in a rough neighborhood. The group is led by a young boy named Martin (Richard Roundtree), who has a deep respect for superheroes, particularly Superman. John Henry’s encounter with the kids sets him on a new path as he decides to use his talents to create a new kind of armor that he hopes will stop the violence that plagues the community.

He starts by designing a high-tech suit of armor that is nearly indestructible, which he dubs as "Steel". Together with Sparks, they prototype and improve the suit, adding blade launchers, powered magnetic boots, and a bulletproof vest.

As Steel, John Henry takes to the streets to take on the criminals who threaten the community. However, it's not long before a former colleague from his military weapons development team, Nathaniel Burke (Judd Nelson), comes after him with deadly intent.

Burke has stolen Irons’ blueprints and has made his own version of the Steel suit, which he wants to sell to the highest bidder. Steel and Burke engage in several epic battles, which take place across the city, including on top of a moving freight train.

Over the course of the movie, Steel becomes a hero to the community, using his armor to fight crime and protect the vulnerable. Meanwhile, he also gains popularity in the media, getting his picture on the cover of Time magazine and even being offered a job as a professional superhero.

Overall, Steel is a classic superhero movie that's filled with action, thrills, and heartfelt moments. Shaq gives a strong performance in the role of Steel, and the chemistry between him and Annabeth Gish is palpable on-screen. Judd Nelson is also a standout as the movie's main villain, delivering a menacing performance that keeps the tension high.

The movie also explores important themes, such as gun violence, poverty, and the power of using one's talents for the greater good. Steel is an inspiring character who shows that anyone can make a difference and that true heroes are not defined by superhuman abilities, but by their willingness to help others.

In conclusion, Steel is a must-see movie for anyone who loves action, adventure, and superheroes. It's a classic '90s movie filled with heart and a reminder that one person can make a difference if they're willing to take a stand.

Steel is a 1997 science fiction movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 37 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 3.0 and a MetaScore of 28.
