Stay Cool is a 2009 romantic comedy film that follows the story of Henry McCarthy (Mark Polish), a successful writer who returns to his hometown in order to deliver the commencement speech at his old high school. The movie revolves around Henry's attempts to reconnect with his past while figuring out his future, with comedic and romantic elements throughout.

At the beginning of the movie, we see Henry as a confident and accomplished writer, who seems to have it all together. He's written a bestselling novel and is now working on his second book. However, when he returns to his hometown, he finds that things are not quite as he remembers them. He reconnects with his old high school crush Scarlett (Winona Ryder), who is now married with a child, but seems unhappy with her husband. He also comes across a girl named Shasta O'Neil (Hilary Duff), who is now a student at his old high school, and who is determined to win his heart.

Henry's return to his hometown also brings up a lot of unresolved issues from his high school days. He reconnects with some of his old friends, including the school jock, Wino (Sean Astin), who still seems to carry a grudge against Henry. There's also an awkward encounter with the school principal, who still seems to have it out for Henry. As Henry navigates his way through these various relationships, he also has to deal with the pressure of delivering a successful commencement speech.

The movie is a light-hearted romantic comedy, with plenty of witty banter and comedic moments. The chemistry between the three main actors is excellent, and their performances are all top-notch. Mark Polish is charming and relatable as Henry, while Winona Ryder is perfect as the conflicted Scarlett. Hilary Duff is also excellent as the quirky and determined Shasta, who adds a fun, youthful energy to the movie. Sean Astin is also great as the bitter and jealous Wino, who provides some of the movie's funniest moments.

One of the things that makes Stay Cool stand out is its unique mix of nostalgia and modernity. While the movie is set in the present day, it has a distinctly 80s feel to it, with references to classic films like The Breakfast Club and Pretty in Pink. The soundtrack is also full of 80s-style pop songs, which add to the nostalgia factor. At the same time, the movie also has a very modern feel to it, with its focus on social media, texting, and other aspects of modern technology.

Overall, Stay Cool is a fun and entertaining romantic comedy that will appeal to fans of the genre. It's a heartwarming story that's full of memorable moments and great performances, and one that's sure to leave its audience feeling good. Whether you're looking for a light-hearted romantic comedy or just a fun, feel-good movie to watch, Stay Cool is definitely worth checking out.

Stay Cool is a 2011 comedy with a runtime of 1 hour and 34 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 4.9.
