The horror movie Stay Alive, released in 2006, is a thrilling and terrifying tale about a group of young people who discover a sinister video game that causes their worst nightmares to come to life. After one of their friends mysteriously dies while playing the game, Stay Alive, the group is determined to solve the mystery before they also become victims. Harrison (Jon Foster), the main protagonist, is obsessed with gaming and becomes determined to unravel the sinister plot behind this particular game.

As they dive deeper into the game's secrets, they discover that they must not only beat the game, but also survive the twisted challenges that it provides, or they will not make it out alive. The group becomes immersed in the game world and as they do, the line between reality and the game starts to blur, making it even harder to survive.

Their journey to uncover the secrets of Stay Alive takes them through a maze of dangerous clues, eerie clues, markings, and symbols. The dark history of the Louisiana plantation and its tainted bloodline becomes an integral part of their investigations, but they come to find out that they are not alone in their quest.

The group must fight for their survival against evil spirits lurking in the shadows, as well as their own internal demons, manifested by the game. Fear, panic, anxiety, and confusion all take hold as they try to make sense of the game and the real-life horror it is unleashing. At every twist and turn, there are new twists which, at times, create the feel of an actual video game.

The characters, played by talented actors, including Samaire Armstrong as Abigail, Frankie Muniz as Swink Sylvania, Monica Monica as October, and Sophia Bush as Phineas, all bring their unique personalities to the film, making it easy to become invested in their fate.

The tight-knit group, who start out thinking they're just playing a video game, become fully immersed in the nightmare, with little to no respite, even when they take a break in the safe confines of their hotel rooms.

The story is cleverly crafted with well-timed shocks and unexpected twists that keep the viewer engaged throughout. The setting is perfect for a horror movie, with the southern gothic style mansion and Louisiana bayou providing the eerie backdrop for the dark and intense story.

Director William Brent Bell keeps the tension building throughout the movie as he expertly captures the characters' fear and paranoia, encouraging speculation, discussions, and analysis. The use of shadows, sound, and lighting all help to create a creepy and immersive atmosphere.

Critics were mixed about Stay Alive, with some praising the cinematography, storyline, and suspense, while others found it predictable, clichéd, and even exploitative. Although the movie didn't achieve commercial nor critical success, it is still an entertaining horror movie that is worth watching for fans of the genre.

Overall, Stay Alive is a thrilling horror film that combines elements of suspense, mystery, and action, with a clever twist of the video game world. It is a must-watch for fans of the horror genre, and thrill-seekers who want a taste of a creepy video game come to life.

Stay Alive is a 2006 horror movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 25 minutes. It has received poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 5.0 and a MetaScore of 24.
