David Lowery had been making short films for a few years when he took a step back. "I decided that I really needed to dedicate myself to what I wanted to do as a filmmaker and what was important to me," he explained, and so he turned his camera back on himself and his work to make SOME ANALOG LINES, an essay film that considers the nature of art and creation and filmmaking as handmade art. Subtitled, "an arrangement in no particular order," it is both philosophical and artisanal, a reflection on the nature of making art (whether it is the physical effort of sawing through a board to build a wooden shelf or animating a film with digital tools) and a celebration of the tactile dimensions of creation. The result, in his own words, was "the first movie that I made that I felt like I could actually call my own." - Sean Axmaker
