Solar Attack (also known as Solar Strike or Tornado Warning) is a 2006 action thriller directed by Paul Ziller and starring Mark Dacascos, Joanne Kelly, and Kevin Jubinville. The film follows an intrepid scientist and a team of emergency responders as they race against the clock to prevent a catastrophic solar flare from destroying Earth.
The movie begins by introducing us to an international space station equipped with advanced technology that can predict solar flares with incredible accuracy. However, the space station is destroyed by a freak meteor shower, leaving Earth defenseless against a massive solar flare that is heading right towards it.
As the solar flare approaches, the world's governments are left scrambling to find a solution to prevent the cataclysmic event. In the midst of the chaos, Dr. Riley (played by Joanne Kelly) identifies an experimental technology that could potentially redirect the solar flare away from Earth. However, to use this technology, a team of brave workers must be flown into the heart of the flare and deploy the device manually.
This is where Mark Dacascos' character, Major Tom, comes in. In a nod to his martial arts background, Major Tom is a member of an elite rescue team trained in high-intensity situations. Alongside Dr. Riley, he leads a mission to deliver the experimental technology to the heart of the solar flare before it's too late.
The team faces numerous obstacles along the way, including a rogue military leader who wants to use a nuclear weapon to destroy the flare and an overzealous scientist who believes that the solar flare is a natural event that must be allowed to occur. Meanwhile, on the ground, a massive tornado created by the approaching flare wreaks havoc on several cities, adding to the urgency of the mission.
With time running out, the team pushes ahead, facing one perilous situation after another, until they finally reach the heart of the solar flare. There, they must work together to deploy the experimental technology and redirect the flare away from Earth. As the team battles extreme conditions and an enemy determined to thwart their efforts, tension builds to a heart-stopping climax.
Overall, Solar Attack is a fast-paced, entertaining disaster movie with a likeable cast and an intriguing premise. While the special effects aren't always top-notch, the movie's action-packed storyline more than makes up for any shortcomings in the visuals. Fans of action thrillers and disaster movies should definitely give this one a watch.
