Small Group, a 2018 independent Christian film directed by Matt Chastain, is the story of two couples as they travel down different paths in their spiritual journeys. Led by Jack (Sterling Hurst), a Bible study group finds itself in turmoil when Jack suddenly announces that he no longer believes in God. As the group members try to come to terms with Jack's announcement, they also struggle with their own individual doubts and fears, and with the challenges that arise from being part of a small, close-knit community.

At the same time, Jack's wife, Kate (Emily Dunlop), is facing her own spiritual crisis. She finds herself questioning the role of women in the church and feeling increasingly disconnected from the faith that once gave her so much comfort and purpose.

Meanwhile, the other couple in the group, Kyle (Matt Chastain) and Lila (Niki Koss), are grappling with their own issues. Kyle is a worship pastor who is feeling burned out and disillusioned with his job, while Lila is struggling to conceive and is starting to feel like a failure as a woman.

Through a series of frank and honest conversations, arguments, and moments of tenderness, the group members begin to confront their doubts and fears and to explore what faith really means to them. They read Scripture, pray, and participate in discussions that challenge them to think deeply about their beliefs and their relationships with God and each other.

As they do so, each member of the group begins to find their own way forward, and to discover new depths of faith and understanding that they never knew were possible. They find that in the end, it is their relationships with each other that sustain them, and that nothing can truly shake their commitment to each other and to the community that they have built together.

Small Group is an insightful, thoughtful film that tackles some of the most challenging questions facing Christians today. It asks us to confront our doubts and fears head-on, and to be honest with ourselves and with each other about the things that trouble us most. It also reminds us of the power of community and the importance of coming together in faith, even when we are wrestling with doubts and confusion.

The film is beautifully shot, with a keen eye for detail and a sense of warmth and intimacy that draws us in to the lives of these characters. The performances are uniformly excellent, with each actor bringing depth and nuance to their roles. Sterling Hurst is especially good as Jack, conveying both the pain and the liberation of his decision to abandon his faith.

At its heart, Small Group is a film about the things that matter most in life: love, community, and the search for meaning and purpose. It challenges us to think deeply about our own lives and beliefs, and to be open to the possibility of change and growth. If you're looking for a thoughtful, engaging, and powerful film that will leave you feeling inspired and uplifted, you won't want to miss Small Group.

Small Group is a 2018 drama with a runtime of 2 hours and 1 minute. It has received mostly positive reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 6.7.
