Robin Monroe (Anne Heche) and Frank Martin (David Schwimmer) have been seeing each other for awhile, and Frank is ready to take the relationship to another level. He surprises her by making all the arrangements to take her to the secluded island of Makatea, while there, Frank proposes to Robin and she accepts. The next morning Robin gets a phone call from her boss in New York, begging her to fly back to Tahiti to babysit a photo shoot for her. After a whole lot of persuasion, Robin agrees to make the trip, as soon as she can get the only pilot available to take her off the island.
Quinn Harris (Harrison Ford) is experiencing the effects of a night of too many drinks, when Robin approaches him at his bungalow. At first he refuses to take her to Tahiti, but after Robin sweetens the deal with an offer for $700.00, he accepts. As they are loading the plane, there is evidence of impending bad weather, causing Robin to show signs of concern.
While in flight, Robin takes some medication to help her calm her nerves, but she ends up taking more than she should, and when Quinn shows signs of stress due to the plane being struck by lightning, Robin is feeling nothing but joy.
After quickly searching the horizon, Quinn spots an island and heads straight for it. The only place he can set down is on the beach, but the landing is rough and the aircraft is damaged before it comes to a complete stop.
With no way to contact the outside world and no way to get off the island, it looks like Quinn and Robin will be on the island for awhile, a fact that neither one is looking forward to. This action comedy is directed by Ivan Reitman and has supporting roles by Jacqueline Obradors as Angelica, and Allison Janney as Marjorie, Robin's Boss.
