Watch Simon of the Desert

Simon of the Desert is based on the life of Simon Stylites who lived in the late fourth and early fifth century. Simon stands on a column of sandstone in the middle of the desert praying for six years, six months, and six days. He only steps off that column to walk to another column which was donated by a rich religious man in recognition of his sacrifices. Though he performs miracles, such as healings, people begin to lose interest in him. The devil comes along, disguised as a seductive woman, to tempt Simon to abandon his work.
