In the 1973 western movie Showdown, directed by George Seaton, a small town in Texas is terrorized by a group of bandits led by the ruthless gunman, J.J. (played by Dean Martin). The town sheriff, J.D. Cahill (Rock Hudson), is determined to put an end to J.J.'s reign of terror, but he is also dealing with his own troubled personal life.

Cahill is a widower raising his two teenage sons, Billy Joe (played by Andrew Prine) and Jimmy (played by John Garfield Jr.). Cahill's relationship with his sons is strained, as he is often too busy with his job as sheriff to spend quality time with them. In fact, Billy Joe resents his father for not being there for his mother when she was dying of tuberculosis.

Meanwhile, J.J. and his gang continue to rob and pillage the town, leaving a trail of destruction in their wake. He is a cold-blooded killer who has no qualms about hurting innocent people. J.J. is also a charismatic figure, and he manages to gain the loyalty of some of the town's citizens.

As Cahill works to track down J.J. and his gang, he also tries to repair his relationship with his sons. He enlists their help in catching the bandits, hoping that it will bring them closer together. However, the plan backfires when Billy Joe is taken prisoner by J.J.'s gang. Cahill is forced to make a difficult decision: should he risk his own life to save his son, or should he focus on taking down J.J. and his gang once and for all?

The tension builds as Cahill and J.J. prepare for a final showdown. The two men are evenly matched, both skilled with a gun and equally determined to prevail. The outcome of the showdown will determine the fate of the town, and it will also determine the future of Cahill's relationship with his sons.

Rock Hudson delivers a strong performance as the stoic sheriff, J.D. Cahill. He portrays the character with a sense of gravitas, emphasizing his dedication to his job and his struggle to balance his personal and professional lives. Dean Martin is equally impressive as J.J., the villain of the film. He gives the character a menacing quality, making him a formidable opponent for Cahill.

Showdown is a classic western movie that explores the themes of family, loyalty, and justice. It is a timeless tale of good versus evil, and it is sure to keep viewers on the edge of their seats until the very end.
