"Shinsengumi (Assassins of Honor)" also marketed as "Band of Assassins," is a Japanese period drama film. The film occurs at the tail end of 19th century Japan, with power shifting away from the Shogunate and toward the Emperor and signaling a new era. Restless with the warping regime, a band of samurai, villagers, and simple farmers, unite under Isami Kondo's banner of the "Shinsengumi." Isami rose from his simple beginnings as a farmer to the leader of the capable group, known for their motto of "aku soku zan;" meaning to "slay evil immediately." "Shinsengumi" translates as "the new/true police."
