In the small town of Shallow Valley, something is amiss. A barefoot young man covered in dirt and blood stumbles into the police station in the middle of the night, carrying a strange symbol carved into his chest. The only words he utters are "Give me a name." Sergeant Jack Sheppard (played by Timothy V. Murphy) takes charge of the case, trying to piece together what happened to the mysterious stranger and whether he is a danger to the community.
As the officers search the nearby woods, they come across a grisly sight - a shallow grave containing the remains of a young woman. Jack is convinced that the nameless man is connected to the murder, but none of the locals seem to recognize the symbol on his chest or know who he might be. Meanwhile, bizarre events begin to occur around the town - a pack of wild dogs attacks a group of teenagers, a woman's car is vandalized with strange symbols, and a strange, ghostlike figure is seen lurking in the shadows.
The investigation becomes increasingly complex as more bodies are found and it becomes clear that something deeper and darker is at play in Shallow Valley. Jack becomes haunted by visions of the dead, including his own wife, and clashes with his fellow officers over the best way to handle the case. Meanwhile, the main suspect in the murders, a reclusive artist named Stuart Dempsey (played by Stan Kirsch), denies any involvement and insists that he is being framed.
As the tension builds and the body count rises, Jack must confront his own demons and unravel the twisted web of secrets and lies that surrounds Shallow Valley. Along the way, he forms a connection with a young woman named Helen (played by Lindsey Stoddart), who has her own dark past and may hold the key to the town's secrets.
Shallow Ground is a chilling horror-thriller that explores themes of identity, trauma, and the dark side of human nature. The cinematography is stunning, with eerie shots of the misty woods and abandoned buildings that make up the town. The cast delivers strong performances, particularly Timothy V. Murphy as the haunted cop and Stan Kirsch as the brooding artist. The twists and turns of the plot will keep viewers on the edge of their seats until the very end.
Shallow Ground is a 2004 horror movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 37 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 4.9.
