Shadow Man is a 2006 action thriller movie directed by Michael Keusch. The movie marks the third collaboration between Steven Seagal and Keusch after they worked together on the movies Belly of the Beast and Mercenary for Justice. The movie stars Steven Seagal as Jack Foster, a former CIA agent who is now working as a freelance spy. The movie also stars Eva Pope, Imelda Staunton, and Vincent Riotta in supporting roles.
The story of Shadow Man takes place in Romania, where Jack Foster is hired by a mysterious businessman named Anthony Chapel (Vincent Riotta) to retrieve a stolen Russian nuclear warhead. Foster is given a team consisting of weapons specialist Eddie Jones (Michael Elwyn), surveillance expert Harry (Skanderbey), and translator Nakamura (Garrick Hagon) to help him complete the mission.
As Foster's team starts working on the mission, they come across another group of mercenaries led by a man named Roland (Gary Beadle) who are also trying to get their hands on the nuclear warhead. As the two teams race against each other to get the warhead, Foster discovers that there is more to the mission than meets the eye. He discovers that Chapel has his own agenda, and Foster and his team become pawns in a dangerous game of international politics.
The movie features Steven Seagal in a classic action hero role, with plenty of fight scenes and gunfights. Seagal's character is a skilled fighter who can take on multiple opponents at once, and he also has a few witty one-liners in the movie. Eva Pope's character, Dr. Rachel Larkin, provides some romantic tension to the movie, as she is a colleague of Chapel's who becomes entangled in the mission. Imelda Staunton plays the role of Ambassador Cochran, the head of the U.S. embassy in Romania, who is also involved in the mission.
The movie also has a few twists and turns in the plot, as Foster and his team uncover Chapel's true intentions. There are a few moments of suspense and surprise, though the movie mostly relies on its action sequences to keep the audience engaged.
One of the highlights of the movie is the setting. Shadow Man was filmed on location in Romania, and the movie features some breathtaking landscape shots. The movie shows off the medieval architecture of Brasov, as well as the rugged wilderness of the Carpathian Mountains. The movie also features some local Romanian actors, which adds to the authenticity of the setting.
Overall, Shadow Man is a typical Steven Seagal action movie. The movie doesn't break any new ground, but it provides plenty of thrills for fans of the genre. The movie's setting and supporting cast help to elevate it above some of Seagal's other straight-to-DVD movies, but ultimately it's Seagal's charisma and fighting skills that make the movie worth watching.
Shadow Man is a 2006 action movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 35 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 4.1.
