Sex Lives of the Potato Men is a 2004 British comedy film directed by Andy Humphries, which stars Johnny Vegas, Mackenzie Crook, Carol Harvey, and others. The film takes a hilarious look at the lives of two friends, played by Vegas and Crook, who have a lot of sexual insecurities but can't seem to get enough of it. The film assembles a quirky cast of characters and follows their sex lives, which are of varying degrees of success and satisfaction.
The film follows the lives of two best friends, Ian and Anthony, who are both desperately trying to get laid. Ian is a plumber who has a crush on a woman named Clare. Anthony, on the other hand, is married with two children and is constantly cheating on his wife. The two friends attend a sex therapy group, where they meet other people with similar sexual problems.
However, things take a turn for the worse when the duo becomes involved in a plan to steal Viagra from a local pharmacy. They enlist the help of a buddy who is a security guard at the pharmacy. But things go from bad to worse, when the security guard gets the drugs mixed up with some very potent hallucinogens. Meanwhile, Ian's love life also takes a hit when he discovers that Clare is a lesbian.
As the night progresses, the group of sex-obsessed men find themselves in a series of hilarious mishaps and absurd situations, including a scene where they participate in a "penis measuring" competition at a nightclub. The film also features several interrelated subplots, including the sexual misadventures of a group of local teenagers and a middle-aged couple trying to reignite their sex life.
One of the highlights of the movie is the superb acting by comedian Johnny Vegas, who delivers a hilarious performance as the clueless plumber Ian. Mackenzie Crook, who is best known for his role in The Office and Pirates of the Caribbean, also does a great job as the cheating husband Anthony. Carol Harvey, who plays one of the members of the sex therapy group, also adds some comic relief to the film.
Overall, Sex Lives of the Potato Men is a crude, raunchy comedy that is not for everyone. However, if you're a fan of British humor and enjoy films with a lot of sex-related gags, then this film is definitely worth watching. While it might not be a cinematic masterpiece or a timeless classic, it certainly delivers on its promise of providing plenty of laughs and awkward moments.
