Serie Noire is a 1979 crime drama film directed by Alain Corneau and starring Patrick Dewaere, Myriam Boyer, and Marie Trintignant. The film is based on a novel by American author Jim Thompson, and it was originally released in France under the title "A Hell of a Given Day." The plot of the film follows Franck Poupart (Patrick Dewaere), a down-on-his-luck salesman who is struggling to make ends meet. He lives with his girlfriend Jeanne (Myriam Boyer), who is tired of his constant failures and lack of ambition. When Franck is fired from his job, he becomes desperate and turns to crime to try and turn his life around.
Franck's first target is his own boss, a wealthy man who he believes has mistreated him. However, the plan goes awry and Franck ends up killing an innocent woman instead. This sets off a chain of events that quickly spirals out of control, as Franck tries to cover up his crime and stay one step ahead of the law.
As Franck becomes more and more entangled in a web of deceit, he begins to lose control of his own sanity. He becomes obsessed with a young girl named Mona (Marie Trintignant), who he meets during one of his criminal escapades. Despite her young age and innocence, Mona is drawn to Franck for reasons she can't explain.
As the film progresses, the tension builds to a fever pitch as the police close in on Franck and Mona becomes more and more involved in his dangerous world. The film's grim and gritty atmosphere is perfectly matched by its dark and moody visuals, which capture the bleakness of Franck's world.
Overall, Serie Noire is a compelling and intense crime drama that is sure to keep viewers on the edge of their seats. The film's excellent performances, gripping storyline, and atmospheric visuals make it a must-see for fans of the genre.
