Senseless is a 1998 comedy film directed by Penelope Spheeris and starring Marlon Wayans, David Spade, and Brad Dourif. The film follows the story of Darryl Witherspoon, a college student who takes an experimental drug as part of a scientific study, which heightens all of his senses but also causes him to hallucinate. Darryl Witherspoon, played by Marlon Wayans, is a struggling college student who takes up a job in a research lab to make some extra cash. When he volunteers for an experimental drug test, he is injected with a super serum that drastically enhances all of his senses, but also makes him extremely jumpy and unable to control himself.
At first, Darryl revels in his newfound powers, able to hear a whisper from across the room and smell things from miles away. However, it's not long before the side effects start to kick in and he begins to suffer from debilitating hallucinations, leading him down a path of chaos and destruction.
Along the way, Darryl's roommate Tim, played by David Spade, tries to help him navigate his new abilities and avoid being caught by the authorities. Tim is a successful stockbroker who longs for the college days and has lived vicariously through Darryl's schooling experience. However, with Darryl's newfound powers, Tim's fun is about to be taken to the next level.
As Darryl tries to maintain a grip on reality, he finds himself caught up in a dangerous game of corporate espionage that threatens his life and those around him. Brad Dourif plays one of the sinister scientists behind the drug experiment and his character's intentions are not always clear.
One of the film's themes is the race to get ahead in corporate America, no matter the cost. While Darryl is initially thrilled by his sensory superpowers, he soon realizes that his control over them is limited, and they begin to consume his every waking moment. In the end, the movie makes the point that the price of absolute sensory awareness is not worth the potential cost.
The film has a lot of comedic moments, and Marlon Wayans puts in a great comedic performance, particularly when he's trying to navigate his way through his newfound abilities. David Spade also provides plenty of laughs as the wise-cracking Tim, who often finds himself in over his head as he tries to help his friend.
Overall, Senseless is an entertaining movie that offers a unique twist on the superhero genre. It combines comedy, action, and a dash of romance to create an enjoyable and memorable cinematic experience.
