The film is based on real-life events and is set in the backdrop of the lawlessness and crime that plagued the state of Uttar Pradesh in the early 1990s. The movie revolves around Ajay Kumar (Arshad Warsi), a young IPS officer who is posted in the city of Lucknow. Ajay is determined to eradicate the rampant crime in the city and is known for his honest and diligent approach to his job. His reputation precedes him, and he soon finds himself leading a special task force that is tasked with taking down local gangsters and mafias.
Ajay finds a reliable ally in the form of the veteran crime reporter Amrita (Mahima Chaudhry). Amrita is fearless and dedicated to exposing the truth, and she starts working closely with Ajay to uncover the corruption and criminal activities that rule the roost in the city.
One of the most notorious gangsters in the city is Gajraj Singh (Pankaj Kapur), who is a powerful figure in the local politics and the crime world. Gajraj is ruthless, and he will do anything to stay on top, including using his political connections to thwart Ajay's efforts.
As Ajay's team starts digging deeper and uncovering the web of corruption and criminal activities that fuel the city's underworld, Gajraj becomes increasingly desperate to protect his interests. The acting in the film is top-notch, and Arshad Warsi shines in the lead role of the determined cop. He brings a genuineness and honesty to the character that makes it easy for the audience to root for him. Mahima Chaudhry also delivers an impressive performance as the fearless journalist who is not afraid to take risks in her pursuit of the truth.
Pankaj Kapur is excellent as the menacing gangster Gajraj Singh. He portrays the character with an air of authority and a cold demeanor that makes him a formidable adversary for Ajay. The supporting cast is also good, with some notable performances by Sushant Singh and Rajendra Gupta.
