Sea of Dust is a horror film released in 2008, directed by Scott Bunt and starring Tom Savini, Troy Holland, and Ingrid Pitt. The movie is set in the 19th century and tells the story of a group of people who become stranded in an abandoned village while on a train journey. The movie opens with the group travelling on a train through the American West. The passengers come from different backgrounds, but they all end up in the same car. Among them are a doctor named Roy, a businessman named Peter, a young couple named Mary and Grant, and an elderly woman named Mrs. Bradley.

As they journey through barren landscapes, the train stops near an abandoned station. The conductor tells them that the train needs to make a repair and that they will need to wait until the next day to continue their journey. Mrs. Bradley insists that they must find somewhere to wait indoors, as she is elderly and frail.

Against the better judgment of the conductor, the group decides to explore the nearby abandoned village. They find an old deserted hotel and take shelter there. However, strange things start to happen. They hear a strange noise coming from the woods, and the hotel is filled with an eerie fog. They also find the body of a man who appeared to have been tortured to death.

The group realizes that there is something sinister about the village, and that they might be in grave danger. As they try to find a way out, they encounter a malevolent entity that seems to be stalking them.

Sea of Dust is a slow-paced, atmospheric horror movie that builds its tension slowly and effectively. The movie relies on its eerie setting, creepy sound design, and moody cinematography to create a sense of dread. The abandoned village is one of the movie's strongest aspects, effectively conveying a sense of unease and isolation.

The acting in the movie ranges from decent to mediocre. Tom Savini, who is better known for his work as a horror makeup artist and special effects expert, plays the role of the conductor. He delivers a solid performance, but the role is not particularly demanding.

Troy Holland, who plays the lead character Peter, does an adequate job, but his performance feels a bit wooden and uninspired at times. Ingrid Pitt, who plays the role of Mrs. Bradley, adds a touch of gravitas to the proceedings, but her character is severely underused. The rest of the cast delivers serviceable performances, but no one really stands out.

One of the strongest aspects of the movie is its use of practical effects. The gore effects are convincing and gruesome, and they add a sense of realism to the proceedings. The makeup effects used for the entity that haunts the group are also well-done, giving the entity a creepy, otherworldly appearance.

The movie is not without its flaws, however. The pacing is slow at times, and some of the scenes drag on for longer than they should. The script is also a bit lackluster, with some of the dialogue feeling forced and contrived.

Overall, Sea of Dust is a flawed but effective horror movie. Its eerie atmosphere and effective use of practical effects make it a worthwhile viewing for horror fans who enjoy slow-burning, atmospheric horror movies. While it may not be a classic of the genre, it's a solid effort from the filmmakers and a commendable attempt at creating a creepy, unsettling horror movie.

Sea of Dust is a 2009 fantasy movie. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 3.2.
