The Scorpion King 5: Book of Souls is a 2018 action-adventure movie directed by Don Michael Paul, starring Zach McGowan, Nathan Jones, and Mayling Ng. This movie is the fifth installment in The Scorpion King series, which was originated from the Mummy franchise. The story of The Scorpion King 5 revolves around Mathayus (Zach McGowan), a skilled warrior who is hired by a princess named Tala (Pearl Thusi) to find an ancient artifact known as the Book of Souls. The Book of Souls, as the name suggests, contains powerful magic that can bring the dead back to life, and it is also able to control the entire world. Mathayus is reluctant to undertake the mission at first, but he agrees after Tala convinces him that the book should not fall into the wrong hands.

Mathayus sets out on his journey with his trusted companions, the giant warrior Enkidu (Nathan Jones), and the female assassin Amina (Mayling Ng). They must cross deserts, jungles, and other dangerous terrains to reach the location of the Book of Souls, which is protected by a team of skilled guards.

After reaching the location, Mathayus and his team discover that the Book of Souls has already been stolen by a group of mercenaries led by the evil warlord Nebserek (Peter Mensah). Nebserek is determined to use the book's powers to resurrect his deceased lover and conquer the world. However, Mathayus and his team vow to stop Nebserek at any cost and retrieve the Book of Souls.

The movie offers a decent amount of action and adventure, with several fight scenes, swordplay, and even some humor thrown in for good measure. Zach McGowan delivers a competent performance as Mathayus and holds his own in the fight scenes. Nathan Jones and Mayling Ng also manage to showcase their fighting skills and add some extra flair to the movie's action sequences.

As far as the story goes, there are no major surprises, but it is engaging enough to keep the viewers interested throughout the movie's runtime. The movie's special effects are decent enough, with some nice CGI work used for the movie's more fantastical elements, such as the magical powers of the Book of Souls.

One of the best parts of this Scorpion King installment is the setting. The movie takes place in the ancient Egyptian kingdom and the surrounding areas, providing some beautiful visuals and adding to the overall sense of adventure. The film's production design and costume work are impressive as well, adding to the historically-focused atmosphere.

Overall, The Scorpion King 5: Book of Souls is an entertaining action-adventure movie that will satisfy fans of the franchise and action movies aficionados alike. While it does not bring anything new to the table, it is a well-made movie with good fight scenes, a likable cast, and an engaging story.

Scorpion King 5: Book of Souls is a 2018 action movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 41 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 4.6.
