Schultze is an accomplished accordion player who until recently worked in the mines in his East German village. He has always had a deep passion for the polka, and that is all he has ever played, just as German is the only language he has ever spoken. However, when he is listening to the radio one night, he hears zydeco music and is instantly inspired. Though he was not familiar with this genre before, he decides that he wants to immerse himself in it and makes a trip to its birthplace in Louisiana despite his lack of a second language.
