Sawney - Flesh of Man, directed by Ricky Wood Jr. and starring David Hayman, is a chilling horror movie that will make you think twice about taking a drive through the Scottish countryside. The movie is based on the true story of Alexander 'Sawney' Bean, a 16th century Scottish cannibal who according to legend, lived with his family in a cave and preyed on travelers on the nearby roads.

The movie begins with a young couple, Wendy and Bill, driving through the countryside when they are attacked and abducted by a mysterious group of people. The couple soon realizes that they are being held captive by a family of cannibals, led by the patriarch Sawney (David Hayman), who is still alive and well after centuries of feasting on human flesh.

Sawney's family includes his wife, mother, siblings, and his own children, who have all been conditioned to survive on human meat. They live in a dark, damp cave system hidden from the world, where they lure in unsuspecting travelers to be their next meal. As Wendy and Bill attempt to escape, they face unimaginable horrors and gruesome violence at the hands of Sawney's family.

The movie does an excellent job of creating a tense and claustrophobic atmosphere, as the couple is constantly pursued and tormented by their captors. The acting by the entire cast, particularly David Hayman who delivers a haunting performance as Sawney, is spot-on and believable.

The filmmakers also manage to inject a few unexpected twists and turns into an otherwise straightforward story. For example, we learn that the cannibals have a deep-rooted fear of water, which adds a layer of complexity to the story and makes the couple's escape attempts all the more difficult.

Perhaps the biggest strength of Sawney - Flesh of Man, however, is its ability to stay true to the gruesome and horrific nature of the Bean family's crimes, while avoiding gratuitous or exploitative violence. The carnage is certainly unsettling and disturbing, but it never feels excessive or over-the-top. It is clear that the filmmakers took great care to handle the subject matter with respect and sensitivity.

In addition to its strong storytelling and acting, Sawney - Flesh of Man is also visually impressive. The majority of the movie takes place in the dimly lit cave system, where the walls are covered in moss and the air is thick with the stench of decay. The cinematography is consistently effective at creating a sense of dread and discomfort, and the use of practical effects adds to the movie's authenticity.

Overall, Sawney - Flesh of Man is a well-crafted horror movie that offers a fresh take on a well-known legend. The movie manages to be both frightening and thoughtful, exploring the limits of human depravity while also examining the tragic backstory of the Bean family. While the subject matter is certainly not for everyone, for fans of the genre, Sawney - Flesh of Man is a must-see.
