Satanic is a horror movie from 2016 that focuses on four friends' journey to Los Angeles. They are college students who are infatuated with the occult and decide to explore it. But their exploration takes a wrong turn when they stumble upon a Satanic ritual in progress. The movie opens with a road trip to California, where the friends - Chloe (Sarah Hyland), David (Steven Krueger), Elise (Devanny Pinn), and Seth (Justin Chon) - plan to attend a concert. Along the way, they visit a few occult shops in San Francisco, where Chloe buys a mysterious book called 'The Book of the Dead,' which she assumes is a cookbook for witches. The group then stops at a rural convenience store and hears about an occult hideaway in LA. Intrigued, they take a detour to investigate.

Driving through LA at night, they stop by a small Satanic church in a seedy neighborhood, and Chloe insists they poke around. Unbeknownst to the group, they witness the last of a series of Satanic sacrifices. Chloe, who has been trying to decode the book, recognizes symbols from the ritual and is fascinated by it. Before leaving, she accidentally spills David's soda onto the Satanist leader Henrik's (Marc Barnes) robe. Henrik confronts the group, but they escape from his grasp.

After making it to their hotel, Chloe becomes obsessed with the Church of Satan and Henrik, finally convincing the others to accompany her to a Satanic meeting. They engage in a discussion with a few members and ask if they can attend the black mass ritual. Henrik recognizes Chloe and the group, and suspects they may have knowledge of the previous night's sacrifice.

With Henrik keeping a watchful eye on them, they attend a Satanic ritual and witness the sacrifice of a young woman. Henrik reveals to the group that they are marked for death, implicating them in the sacrifice somehow. The group is unaware that they are now part of a Satanic cult's initiation rite, which will have them marked for death unless they denounce Satan and leave the cult.

In subsequent events, the group is stuck in LA after their rental car gets towed. They move on to a property associated with Henrik, where they come across the now-deceased woman's family. The family quickly gets murdered by cult members, and the group barely escapes from the scene alive.

Chloe realizes that the ritual from San Francisco was a Satanic initiation, and the group has been chosen to complete the next purification ritual by killing their friends. However, they will be exonerated from the sin of murder if they all do it together. The group finally reaches the final ritual site, where their struggles with the cult members escalate. The movie reaches its climax with a human sacrifice, and Chloe finally realizes what she has unleashed.

Satanic is a movie that takes the audience on a supernatural journey into the world of the occult. It boasts an impressive cast, including Sarah Hyland from Modern Family, who delivers a strong character portrayal of Chloe by showcasing her vulnerability, curiosity, and fear. The music is befitting and heightens the terror and suspense within the atmosphere. The screenplay is often times predictable, but it does offer a few spine-chilling moments.

Overall, Satanic is an interesting film that delves into the dark realms of the occult. Although it may not be everybody's cup of tea, the movie does offer an immersive experience that horror fans may enjoy.

Satanic is a 2016 horror movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 24 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 3.7.
