In eighteenth century Japan, political tensions are high. Earthquakes and famines have left the ruling Tokugawa shogunate unable to watch localities, giving rise to powerful local authorities. A group of nine samurai, believing the head of their clan to be corrupt and accusing him of tearing up a petition against organized crime, go to the local superintendent to turn him in. However, before they can, they discover that it is the superintendent that is corrupt and, with the help of ronin Sanjuro Tsubaki, barely escape a trap.

The superintendent, seeing an opportunity, kidnaps the clan head and his family, trying to leverage their lives against him by forcing him to sign a confession. Sanjuro and the rest of the samurai must find a way to evade the superintendent's tricks and traps, then rescue the clan head, his wife, and his daughter before he can be forced to sign the confession that he is corrupt, all while the ronin is trying to convince the clan head's men that he is truly on their side and can be trusted. Classic samurai action directed by acclaimed film maker Akira Kurosawa, Sanjuro is a fast paced thriller that has delighted audiences for generations.

Sanjuro is a 1962 drama with a runtime of 1 hour and 36 minutes. It has received mostly positive reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 8.0.
