Saint, a Dutch horror movie from 2010, takes place on Christmas Eve in Amsterdam. The movie starts off with a robbery gone wrong, and the two criminals decide to flee the scene of the crime by dressing up as Santa Claus and his helper. Little do they know, Saint Nicholas, the real Saint Nick, is not amused by their antics. The legend of Saint Nicholas in the Netherlands is a little different from the American Santa Claus. Instead of elves, he has Black Pete, his helper who gives out candy on December 5th. And instead of rewarding good children with presents, Saint Nick punishes bad children by taking them away in his sack to Spain. In the movie, it is suggested that the real Saint Nick was a bishop who punished the town's children during the Middle Ages, but was killed by angry parents. He has since come back to life seeking revenge on those who celebrate Christmas with disrespect.

The two criminals, Frank and Peter, first cross paths with Saint Nick when they crash their car into his horse. Frank ends up shooting the horse before the two run away. Little do they know, Saint Nick is not just a legend, and he takes revenge on Peter by shoving a sharp stake through his eye. Frank manages to escape, but he is pursued by the saint and his undead helpers.

The rest of the movie takes place over one long night as Frank tries to survive in the middle of Amsterdam on Christmas Eve while being chased by Saint Nick and his helpers. Egbert Jan Weeber plays the role of Frank, a young guy who quickly becomes aware of the fact that Saint Nick is not just a myth. Bert Luppes does a fantastic job of playing the undead bishop, who is determined to punish those who dishonor his name. And Caro Lenssen plays Goert, a police officer who becomes embroiled in the struggle between Frank and Saint Nick.

One of the things that makes Saint stand out is the fact that it takes place on Christmas Eve but is a horror movie. Christmas is usually associated with joy and happiness, and horror movies tend to be set at night or in isolated places, such as cabins in the woods. But Saint takes place in the heart of a bustling city, where there are people everywhere but no one to help the main character. It's a unique setting that adds to the overall sense of horror.

Another thing that sets Saint apart from other horror movies is the quality of the special effects. The undead helpers of Saint Nick are truly terrifying, and the makeup and costumes are incredibly well done. Blood and gore are used sparingly, but when they are used, it's with maximum impact.

Aside from the horror elements, Saint also has a strong plot that keeps audiences engaged throughout the movie. The characters are well developed, and there are moments of tension and action that keep the pace moving forward. The movie also manages to incorporate Dutch culture and heritage seamlessly into the plot.

Overall, Saint is a well-made horror movie that manages to be scary and entertaining at the same time. The setting, characters, and special effects all come together to create a truly terrifying experience. It's definitely not for the faint of heart, but for those who enjoy a good horror movie, Saint is definitely worth checking out.

Saint is a 2011 horror movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 28 minutes. It has received moderate reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 5.6.
