Running Scared is a 1986 buddy cop comedy film directed by Peter Hyams and starring Gregory Hines and Billy Crystal as two Chicago police detectives. The movie also stars Steven Bauer as a drug lord named Julio Gonzales. The film focuses on two police detectives, Danny Costanzo (Crystal) and Ray Hughes (Hines), who are notorious in the department for their unorthodox methods. Danny is a family man and Ray is a bachelor, but both of them are seen as loose cannons by their superiors. Their latest case involves catching Gonzales, a drug kingpin who has been on the run for years.
After a drug bust goes wrong, Danny and Ray learn that Gonzales is trying to leave the country with millions of dollars in cash. They decide to track him down and confiscate the money, but Gonzales is one step ahead of them. He has planted the money in a safe deposit box and has given the key to his girlfriend, Anna (Darlanne Fluegel), who has fled to Key West.
Danny and Ray head down to Florida to find Anna and retrieve the key. Once they arrive, they discover that they have to deal with a number of obstacles, including corrupt cops, a biker gang, and a dangerous mercenary named Snake (Joe Pantoliano).
Throughout the film, Danny and Ray use their wits and quick thinking to get out of sticky situations. The two have a great chemistry on-screen and their banter provides a lot of laughs. The film also has a number of action-packed scenes, including car chases and shootouts.
One of the highlights of the film is the performance by Gregory Hines. In addition to being a talented actor, Hines was also a talented tap dancer. There is a memorable scene in the film where he tap dances his way out of trouble during a shootout.
Another standout performance is by Joe Pantoliano as Snake, the mercenary hired to retrieve the money from Anna. Pantoliano is charismatic and menacing in equal measure and steals every scene he's in.
The movie also features a number of notable supporting actors, including Dan Hedaya, Jimmy Smits, and John DiSanti.
Overall, Running Scared is an entertaining and action-packed film with great performances by the cast. While it may not be the most original or groundbreaking movie, it's still a lot of fun to watch.
