In the 1984 action-thriller movie "Runaway," Tom Selleck stars as Jack Ramsay, a police officer specializing in the new department of robotics. In this futuristic world, robots have become commonplace in society and serve many purposes, such as dancing or performing household chores. However, when things start to go wrong with these machines, it's up to Jack to save the day.

The plot of the movie revolves around a rogue robot program that has gone haywire, causing robots to malfunction and kill their human owners. Jack is tasked with stopping the evil mastermind behind this plot, Dr. Charles Luther, played by Gene Simmons of the rock band KISS. Dr. Luther has created a new line of advanced robots with the potential to cause mass destruction if they aren't stopped in time.

In the midst of the chaos, Jack meets a woman named Jackie, played by Cynthia Rhodes. Jackie is a civilian who becomes involved with Jack's investigation and quickly proves herself to be a valuable ally. Together, they race against time to stop Dr. Luther before he can unleash his dangerous robots on the world.

"Runaway" is a thrilling action movie with plenty of suspense and excitement. The film takes place in a world that is both familiar and completely foreign, with robots being an integral part of everyday life. The story is well-written and keeps viewers on the edge of their seats, wondering what will happen next.

One of the movie's greatest strengths is the chemistry between Tom Selleck and Cynthia Rhodes. Their characters have a natural rapport that enhances the believability of the story. Selleck is at his best as Jack, displaying both toughness and vulnerability as he battles Dr. Luther's robots. Meanwhile, Rhodes brings a great sense of energy and spunk to her role, making Jackie a character who is easy to root for.

Gene Simmons is also excellent as the film's villain, Dr. Luther. His performance is menacing and memorable, and he makes for a truly terrifying bad guy. The supporting cast is also strong, with standout performances from Kirstie Alley as Jack's colleague, Dr. Roberts, and Joey Cramer as a young boy who becomes involved in Jack's investigation.

In addition to the film's engaging story and strong performances, "Runaway" is also notable for its impressive visuals. The movie features a variety of robots, ranging from helpful household gadgets to deadly killing machines. The special effects used to bring these robots to life are impressive, especially for a film from the early 1980s.

Overall, "Runaway" is a gripping, entertaining action movie that has aged surprisingly well since its release over 35 years ago. While some of the technology featured in the film may seem outdated now, the themes of man vs. machine and the dangers of unchecked technological advancement remain just as relevant today as they did when the movie was first released. With a strong cast, exciting action sequences, and a compelling story, "Runaway" is definitely worth a watch for fans of the genre.

Runaway is a 1984 science fiction movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 39 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 5.9 and a MetaScore of 50.
