Roseanna's Grave is a heartwarming and charming romantic comedy-drama directed by Paul Weiland and released in 1997. The film is set in a small Italian town where the residents are all close to one another and are like family. Jean Reno plays Marcello, who is deeply in love with his wife, Roseanna (Mercedes Ruehl). Roseanna has a rare heart condition that requires immediate surgery, which can only take place in a specialized hospital in Rome. However, due to the bureaucracy of the Italian healthcare system, her operation is delayed indefinitely. In despair, Marcello decides to take matters into his own hands and sets out to find a way to get his beloved wife the surgery she needs.
As time goes by without any progress towards getting Roseanna the needed surgery, Marcello begins to have dark thoughts about his wife's future. He is terrified that she may die as a result of the lack of medical attention, and he refuses to let that happen. Marcello decides to take some very drastic measures in order to ensure that his wife gets the surgery she needs.
In his desperation, Marcello hatches a plan to persuade the town doctor, who is, strangely, also the town undertaker, to move up the list of those who need immediate surgery. However, the doctor has a condition - Marcello must persuade one person in the town to die before Roseanna can take his spot on the list.
Needless to say, Marcello has a difficult time convincing anyone to die for Roseanna. Everyone in town is close to one another and knows the nobility and bravery of Marcello's cause. As Marcello struggles to fulfill the doctor's request, he begins to learn just how much his wife means to him and how much he will do to save her life.
Throughout the course of the story, Marcello is tested by the members of his community, who are all reluctant to sacrifice one of their own in order to save Roseanna. Marcello is also forced to confront his own beliefs and the realization that he never truly appreciated what Roseanna meant to him until her life was in major jeopardy.
As the plot unfolds, Marcello, with the help of his closest friends, develops a plan to save Roseanna's life which involves a very unconventional funeral. The plan requires him to convince the town to hold a funeral procession for a live person, but the outcome proves to be something far beyond what Marcello initially anticipated.

The film's cast delivers excellent performances, bringing warmth and a genuine sense of camaraderie to the interactions between the characters. The audience is invested in every twist and turn of the plot, which is full of heartfelt moments and humor.
In summary, Roseanna's Grave is a must-see movie for fans of romantic comedies, dramas, and those who enjoy films that demonstrate love, bravery, and humanity.
