In 1990, Sylvester Stallone returned to the Rocky franchise, starring in Rocky V alongside Talia Shire and Burt Young. This film serves as the fifth installment in the iconic Rocky series, following the story of boxer Rocky Balboa as he deals with retirement, financial struggles, and health issues. The film begins with Rocky (Stallone) returning from Russia after his infamous fight against Ivan Drago. His career in boxing is over, and he's forced to retire after suffering significant brain damage during the fight. Rocky plans to settle down in his hometown of Philadelphia with his wife Adrian (Shire) and his son Robert (Sage Stallone). However, things don't go as planned when he discovers that he has lost all his money, thanks to his accountant's poor financial management skills.

Rocky is forced to sell his beloved gym to pay back his debts and starts to struggle to make ends meet. Robert, who idolizes his father and wants to become a boxer like him, is having a difficult time adjusting to his new school and the social pressures that come with living in the shadow of his famous dad.

Rocky soon becomes a mentor to a young up-and-coming boxer named Tommy Gun (played by real-life boxer Tommy Morrison), who reminds Rocky of his younger self. Tommy's talent and raw potential give Rocky hope for the future, and he starts to train Tommy with the hope of building a new legacy in the boxing world.

However, as Tommy's fame and success grow, he becomes more arrogant and distant from Rocky and his family. Robert feels neglected by his father, who seems to be more focused on Tommy's success than his own son's happiness. Meanwhile, a crooked boxing promoter named George Washington Duke (Richard Gant) sees an opportunity to make a profit off of Tommy's success and tries to poach him from Rocky.

As tensions rise between Rocky, Tommy, and Duke, Rocky's own health starts to deteriorate. The brain damage from his previous fights begins to affect him more and more, and he begins to experience seizures. With his family and his future in boxing on the line, Rocky must decide whether to focus on his own health or to continue chasing the boxing dream that has defined his entire life.

Rocky V may not be as well-regarded as the earlier films in the series, but it's still an emotional and entertaining story that examines the impact that fame, success, and pressure can have on both individuals and families. Stallone gives a powerful and emotional performance as the aging boxer who is forced to confront his own mortality and legacy. Talia Shire is also stellar as Adrian, who serves as Rocky's emotional anchor throughout the film.

The film's themes of fatherhood, legacy, and sacrifice resonate with audiences today, and the iconic "Eye of the Tiger" theme music still gives people chills. Fans of the Rocky franchise will appreciate this film's willingness to explore new territory while still staying true to its roots.

Rocky V is a 1990 drama with a runtime of 1 hour and 50 minutes. It has received moderate reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 5.4 and a MetaScore of 55.
