Road To Emmaus is a Christian drama film released in 2010. Directed by R. Douglas Bruce, the movie follows the story of two of the followers of Jesus who witnessed his crucifixion and resurrection, and their journey to understand the significance of these events. The movie starts by introducing the main characters, Cleopas (Darren Elliot Fulsher) and Myra (Kristie Cooper), a married couple living in Judea during the Roman Empire's reign. Like many Jews at the time, they were expecting a savior who would free them from Roman oppression. However, their hopes were shattered when Jesus was arrested, tried, and crucified.

As the story unfolds, we see Cleopas and Myra, grief-stricken and lost, leaving Jerusalem and heading home to Emmaus. On the way, they encounter a stranger (Guy Holling) who joins them on their journey. However, they do not recognize that the stranger is, in fact, the risen Jesus, who has come to teach them and help them understand the true meaning of his death and resurrection.

The majority of the movie follows the conversations between Cleopas, Myra, and Jesus, as they travel along the road to Emmaus. Jesus, speaking in riddles and parables, manages to help his followers understand that he had to die and rise from the dead to fulfill the prophecies of the Old Testament, and bring salvation to the world.

As the trio continues on their journey, the atmosphere becomes gradually more intense, and the characters' emotions are portrayed intensely. Cleopas and Myra are struck by the wisdom and authority of the stranger, but they are still struggling to recognize their savior. As the group reaches Emmaus, the stranger respectfully declines an offer of hospitality from Cleopas and Myra and disappears from their presence.

The film ends with the two confused disciples returning to Jerusalem, realizing too late that their traveling companion was actually the risen Christ. They are met by the other disciples, who have also recently encountered the risen Jesus, and they all celebrate his resurrection together.

Road To Emmaus is an emotionally charged movie that transports viewers back to the time of Christ, and takes them on a journey with two of his disciples. The film draws heavily from the biblical account of the journey to Emmaus, but it also imaginatively fills in some of the gaps, such as the conversations that took place among the travelers.

The movie's pacing is slow, mirroring the pace of a journey on foot, but the time is well-spent in watching the intimacy and complexity of the relationship between Cleopas, Myra, and Jesus develop. The acting is remarkable, with all three actors giving nuanced performances that add to the believability of the story.

The movie offers a profound message about the nature of faith, and how it can be tested, broken, and ultimately restored. It invites the viewer to ask the same questions that Cleopas and Myra were asking throughout their journey. What is the purpose of suffering, and how can it be reconciled with God's mercy and love? How can one find hope, even when things look hopeless?

With its reverent treatment of biblical themes and compelling storyline, Road to Emmaus is an excellent movie for Christians who want to re-examine the significance of Easter, or for anyone who appreciates a moving and thought-provoking film.

Road To Emmaus is a 2010 drama with a runtime of 32 minutes. It has received mostly positive reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 7.5.
