Rings is a 2017 horror film directed by F. Javier Gutiérrez and starring Matilda Anna Ingrid Lutz, Alex Roe, and Johnny Galecki. The movie is the third installment in the American Ring franchise, which is a continuation of the Japanese horror movie Ringu. The plot takes place 13 years after the events of the first two Ring movies, and it follows a new cast of characters as they are haunted by a mysterious videotape that leads to their death in seven days.

When a young woman named Julia (Matilda Lutz) finds her boyfriend, Holt (Alex Roe), has become part of a secret subculture of people who are trying to study and understand the tapes, she decides to investigate. In doing so, she watches the cursed videotape, and she soon realizes that she has only seven days to live. In an effort to save herself and Holt, Julia embarks on a desperate quest to uncover the truth behind the tape before her time runs out.

Julia's journey takes her to the small town of Sacrament Valley, where she learns about a woman named Samara who was thrown in a well and left to die. Samara was a psychic girl who could see visions of people dying, and her death somehow made her spirit capable of possessing the tape. The only way to break the curse is for someone else to copy the tape, and show it to another person effectively sacrificing them.

As Julia uncovers the truth about Samara's past through her investigation, she discovers that her connection to Holt may be the key to breaking the curse. With time running out, Julia must race against the clock to save herself and the people she loves. She must also face the terrifying truth that Samara's spirit may be more powerful and more dangerous than she ever imagined.

The movie is full of suspense, tension, and jump scares, and it takes the audience for a ride filled with twists and turns. The acting is solid throughout, with Matilda Lutz delivering a standout performance as Julia. Alex Roe also shines as Holt, bringing a sense of urgency and desperation to his role. Johnny Galecki, who played Leonard in the hit TV series The Big Bang Theory, also delivers a credible performance as Gabriel Brown, a professor obsessed with Samara's past.

The cinematography is excellent, and the visuals are both chilling and beautiful at the same time. The movie is set in an eerie and unsettling environment, which helps to create a sense of dread and foreboding throughout. The soundtrack is also noteworthy, with a haunting and atmospheric score that adds to the movie's creepy vibe.

Overall, Rings is a solid horror film that delivers plenty of scares while also offering an intriguing storyline. While it may not be as iconic or unforgettable as the first two movies, it does stand on its own as a worthy addition to the franchise. If you're a fan of horror movies, Rings is definitely worth checking out.

Rings is a 2017 horror movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 42 minutes. It has received poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 4.5 and a MetaScore of 25.
