RiffTrax: Future Force is a 2012 sci-fi action film that is geared toward fans of cheesy, low-budget movies. The film stars David Carradine as John Tucker, a police officer in the future who fights crime with the help of his super-powered gun. The film is known for its laughably bad special effects and cheesy dialogue, making it the perfect target for the humorous commentary of the RiffTrax crew.
For those unfamiliar with RiffTrax, it is the creation of the former stars of Mystery Science Theater 3000, Bill Corbett, Kevin Murphy, and Michael J. Nelson. The three comedians watch bad movies and provide witty commentary throughout, adding their own jokes and observations to the film. Future Force was a perfect fit for their comedic style and made for an entertaining and hilarious movie-watching experience.
The film takes place in the distant future, where law enforcement has been privatized and is now run by a corporation called Security Concepts. John Tucker is a member of this police force, but he is disillusioned with the corrupt system and decides to quit. However, he is drawn back into the fight when a young woman named Billy (Dawn Wildsmith) seeks his help. Billy's father, the inventor of the super-powered gun that Tucker uses, has been killed by a gang of criminals who want the weapon for themselves. Tucker agrees to help Billy get revenge on those who killed her father.
The film features a number of cheesy sci-fi tropes, including time travel, lasers, and robots. The special effects are particularly bad, with many scenes featuring poorly-drawn animations or unconvincing green-screen effects. The dialogue is equally cheesy, with lines like "You're a walking dead man!" and "I've been programmed to kill, you know that!" The RiffTrax crew provides their own jokes and observations throughout, poking fun at everything from the bad acting to the ridiculous plot twists.
One of the highlights of the film is David Carradine's performance as John Tucker. Carradine is known for his martial arts skills, and he gets to show off some of his moves in several fight scenes. However, his acting leaves something to be desired, and he delivers many of his lines with a wooden, emotionless delivery. The RiffTrax crew makes fun of his performance throughout the film, pointing out the awkward pauses in his dialogue and questioning his decision-making skills.
The supporting cast includes a number of other cheesy characters, including a villainous crime boss named Kreeger (played by Robert Tessier) and a wisecracking sidekick named Reno (played by William Zipp). Both of these characters provide plenty of fodder for the RiffTrax crew's jokes, with Kreeger's over-the-top villainy and Reno's cheesy one-liners earning plenty of snarky comments.
Overall, RiffTrax: Future Force is a hilarious parody of a cheesy sci-fi action movie. The film's low-budget special effects and over-the-top dialogue make it a perfect target for the RiffTrax crew's wit and humor, and they deliver plenty of laughs throughout the film. Fans of bad movies and cheesy action films will enjoy this one, as will anyone who appreciates clever and irreverent humor.
RiffTrax: Future Force is a 2014 comedy with a runtime of 80 hours.
