Resurrection County is a 2008 horror/thriller movie directed by Matt Zettell and starring Adam Huss, Kathryn Michelle, and Dayton Knoll. The movie is set in rural America and follows the story of four friends who set out on a road trip to a music festival. However, their journey takes a dark turn when they enter the fictional town of Resurrection and find themselves at the mercy of a group of sadistic locals.
The movie begins as a group of friends, Travis (Adam Huss), Nate (Dayton Knoll), Anna (Kathryn Michelle), and Tag (Rus Blackwell), set out on a road trip to a music festival. Along the way, they stop at a convenience store in the small town of Resurrection, where they encounter the friendly and helpful store clerk, Joe (Robert Miano). However, as they continue on their journey, they are involved in a car accident, and despite Joe's warning to stay away from Resurrection, they decide to seek help from the locals.
As they make their way into town, they realize that something is not quite right. They are greeted with suspicious and hostile stares, and quickly find themselves in trouble with the law. They are taken to the local jail, where they meet Sheriff Blackwater (Tom Zembrod) and his assistant, Deputy Carver (Johnathan Fraser). The sheriff seems to take pleasure in torturing and abusing them, and it becomes clear that they are not going to be able to leave Resurrection without a fight.
As the night progresses, the group discovers that their situation is even more dire than they initially thought. They stumble upon a secret underground chamber where a cult-like group of people is performing a bizarre and terrifying ritual. The locals are revealed to be part of a religious cult, and they have sinister plans for the outsiders.
Resurrection County pulls no punches when it comes to violence and gore. The movie is a brutal and unflinching look at the dark side of human nature, and the lengths that people will go to in the name of religious zealotry. The filmmakers do an excellent job of building tension and creating a sense of dread throughout the movie. The characters are sympathetic and well-written, and the acting is top-notch.
Adam Huss delivers an outstanding performance as Travis, the main protagonist. He is a likeable and relatable character, and he does an excellent job of conveying the fear and desperation that his character feels as he tries to survive in a hostile and unfamiliar environment. Kathryn Michelle is also excellent as Anna, Travis's love interest. Her character is strong and independent, and she manages to hold her own against the brutal and violent locals.
Dayton Knoll and Rus Blackwell also give noteworthy performances as Nate and Tag, respectively. They are both likeable and relatable characters, and their chemistry with Travis and Anna is excellent. Robert Miano, as the friendly convenience store clerk Joe, is also memorable, and his character's fate is especially heart-wrenching.
One of the strengths of Resurrection County is its excellent pacing. The movie starts out relatively slow, allowing the audience to get to know the characters and their motivations. However, once the action starts, it never lets up. The movie is a relentless rollercoaster ride of violence and terror, and it will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very end.
In conclusion, Resurrection County is an excellent example of a modern horror/thriller movie. It has all the elements that fans of the genre look for, including brutal violence, tension-building suspense, and sympathetic characters. The movie is not for the faint of heart, however, as it is extremely graphic and gory. If you are a fan of horror/thriller movies and you haven't seen Resurrection County yet, you're in for a treat. Highly recommended.
