Resurrected is a 1989 British drama film based on a true story. The movie revolves around Arthur Pendragon (Tom Bell), a father who lost his son, Kevin, in the Falklands War. Kevin's body was never found, and Arthur was left helpless and hopeless, unsure how to deal with his grief. But when a soldier named Kevin Deakin (David Thewlis) is found in a remote island in the Falklands three months after the war has ended, having survived the ordeal, Arthur's hope is reignited.

Arthur spearheads a campaign to bring Kevin home. However, Kevin is not the same person he was before he went missing, and regardless of his family and friends' efforts to help him, he remains traumatized and broken. Arthur, though initially ecstatic that Kevin has returned, must come to terms with reality and decide on the best course of action for his son.

The film explores the psychological and emotional impact of war on soldiers and their families. It depicts the struggle of a family trying to understand and come to terms with the traumatic experiences that their loved one has gone through. The movie goes beyond the jingoistic portrayals of war and focuses on the human aspect of the conflict.

At the center of the story is the father-son relationship between Arthur and Kevin, and how the trauma of war can tear apart the strongest of bonds. Tom Bell delivers a poignant performance as a father who has suffered the ultimate loss, and Rita Tushingham gives a moving performance as his wife, who is trying to help him cope with his pain. David Thewlis is outstanding in his role as Kevin, portraying the psychological distress and pain that he has gone through with incredible sensitivity.

The film is directed by Paul Greengrass, who went on to make critically acclaimed movies such as United 93, Captain Phillips, and the Bourne series. Resurrected was his debut feature film, and he shows a great level of craft and sensitivity in the way he handles the subject matter. The film boasts a beautiful and haunting soundtrack by composer Richard Hartley, which complements the emotional depth of the story.

Resurrected is a deeply affecting film that grapples with themes of loss, trauma, and redemption. It portrays the impact of war on individuals, families, and communities, and asks fundamental questions about what it means to be human. It is a humanist film that stands the test of time and reminds us of the power of cinema to move us and make us reflect on our own lives.
