Redwood Massacre: Annihilation is a horror movie released in 2020 that stars Danielle Harris, Damien Puckler, and Gary Kasper. Directed by David Ryan Keith, the movie is a sequel to the 2014 film Redwood Massacre. It follows the story of a young woman named Laura who, along with her friends, ventures into the woods of Redwood County to look for her missing sister. Little do they know, they are walking right into the path of a chainsaw-wielding madman who is out for blood.
The movie opens with a flashback to the previous film, where we see the killer, known as the Redwood Killer, being shot six times but somehow managing to survive. The scene cuts to present-day, where we are introduced to Laura, a tough young woman who is determined to find her sister. She teams up with her friends, Annie, Will, and Jim, and sets out into the woods to search for her. As they venture deeper into the forest, they begin to encounter some strange and eerie sights, including abandoned vehicles and mutilated bodies hanging from trees. Eventually, they stumble upon an old abandoned house and decide to explore it. Little do they know, the Redwood Killer is inside, ready to unleash his fury on them.
As the friends explore the house, they begin to realize that they have walked right into a trap. The house is full of booby traps and secret passages, and the killer is waiting for them at every turn. One by one, they are picked off by the killer, who seems to have supernatural strength and an unquenchable thirst for blood. Along the way, they encounter a hermit who warns them of the danger they face, but it's too little too late.
As the movie progresses, we learn more about the killer's backstory and his motivations. We discover that he is the product of an abusive childhood and has become a twisted and depraved killer as a result. The movie does a good job of creating a tense and foreboding atmosphere, with the use of jump scares and atmospheric music adding to the overall feeling of dread.
The acting in Redwood Massacre: Annihilation is generally good, with Danielle Harris in particular delivering a strong performance as Laura. She embodies the role of a tough survivor well, and her determination to rescue her sister is palpable. Damien Puckler also does a convincing job as the Redwood Killer, despite having very little dialogue throughout the movie.
One of the standout aspects of the movie is the gore and violence. The kills are creative and gruesome, with the killer dispatching his victims with a variety of weapons and methods. The practical effects are also well-done, with the makeup and prosthetics for the killer's disfigurements being especially impressive.
Overall, Redwood Massacre: Annihilation is a solid horror movie that should appeal to fans of the slasher genre. While it's not particularly original, it's well-executed and delivers plenty of gore and tension. The strong performances and effective use of atmosphere elevate it above some of its peers, making it a worthwhile watch for fans of the genre.
Redwood Massacre: Annihilation is a 2020 horror movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 44 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 4.2.
