Red Lights is a 2012 American thriller movie directed and written by Rodrigo Cortes. The movie stars an ensemble cast, which includes Sigourney Weaver, Robert De Niro, Cillian Murphy, and Elizabeth Olsen. It is a movie about two paranormal investigators investigating the mysterious psychic Simon Silver, who has re-emerged after a long absence.

The movie begins with veteran paranormal investigator Dr. Margaret Matheson (Sigourney Weaver) and her assistant Tom Buckley (Cillian Murphy) investigating a haunted house. They are seen collecting equipment from the ghost detection tool kit and setting up a camera to record the supposed paranormal activity. The camera catches a glimpse of a ghostly figure, but Dr. Matheson dismisses it as a trick of the eye, highlighting her skepticism about the supernatural.

The plot then moves to a press conference where a renowned psychic, Simon Silver (Robert De Niro), announces his return to public life after a thirty-year absence. This announcement immediately catches the attention of the paranormal investigation duo who have a grudge against Silver. Dr. Matheson believes Silver is a fraud and has been responsible for the death of at least two people due to his "powers."

Buckley is more open-minded and believes Silver's powers could be real. Despite frequent arguments, the two go to Silver's show, and he stuns them with his incredible psychic abilities, which include telekinesis, suggestion, and mind-reading. Dr. Matheson, however, is not impressed and is convinced that Silver's tricks have perfectly rational explanations.

Buckley begins to investigate Silver, unbeknownst to Dr. Matheson, visiting a psychic awards ceremony conducted by Silver. Here, he meets one of Silver's former assistants, Sally Owen (Elizabeth Olsen). Sally reveals that she was once a protégé of Silver until she realised his powers were fake. Buckley is sceptical and is determined to find out for himself.

Dr. Matheson discovers that Buckley has been investigating Silver and confronts him. She reveals that she does not share his fascination with the supernatural and that her skepticism is based on years of study and practical experience. She warns Buckley that he is making a grave mistake by investigating Silver and that Silver's powers are nothing more than a carefully constructed illusion.

As they continue their investigation, strange events begin to happen around Dr. Matheson, and she becomes increasingly convinced that Silver is behind them. She is comically shown setting up a variety of supernatural deterrents to protect herself, and the film begins to increase in intensity.

The movie comes to a dramatic climax as Buckley confronts Silver, and his true motives are revealed. The twist ending is guaranteed to stun audiences and has been a reason that people continue to talk about this movie today.

Overall, Red Lights is a tense, beautifully acted thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat. The film explores the themes of belief, skepticism, and the supernatural with intelligence and finesse. Sigourney Weaver and Robert De Niro put in excellent performances, and the cinematography is top-notch.

In conclusion, Red Lights is a must-watch movie for anyone interested in thrillers, mind-bending twists, and captivating storylines. Rodrigo Cortes has crafted a masterpiece that is both entertaining and intelligent, and it is one not to be missed.

Red Lights is a 2012 thriller with a runtime of 1 hour and 53 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 6.2 and a MetaScore of 36.
