Rang is a 1993 Bollywood film directed by Talat Jani and produced by Mansoor Ahmed Siddiqui. The movie is a drama-romance with a social message that features a stellar cast, including Jeetendra, Amrita Singh, and Kamal Sadanah. Released on July 9, 1993, Rang was a box office success and received critical acclaim for its storyline, music, and performances of the actors.
The movie revolves around three main characters: Pratap, Lallu and Tina. Pratap (Jeetendra) is a wealthy businessman who is dedicated to his work and reputation. His son Lallu (Kamal Sadanah) is a happy-go-lucky boy who loves to dance but has no interest in the family business. Tina (Amrita Singh) is a theatre artist who is passionate about her career and is admired by both Pratap and Lallu.
The story takes a dramatic turn when Lallu falls in love with Tina and expresses his feelings to her. Tina, who has feelings for Lallu too, accepts his proposal, but things get complicated when Pratap finds out about their relationship. Pratap is strongly against the idea of his son marrying a theatre artist, and he warns Tina to stay away from Lallu. Tina, who is not ready to give up on Lallu, keeps seeing him secretly, and this results in her losing her job.
To make things worse, Lallu becomes seriously ill, and the only cure to his disease is an expensive surgery. With nobody else to turn to, Pratap seeks help from Tina, who agrees to donate her kidney to save Lallu's life. The operation is successful, and Lallu recovers, but the family drama continues as Pratap still disapproves of Tina and Lallu's relationship. The couple tries their best to convince Pratap, but he remains firm, ultimately leading to a full-blown family feud.
The movie's title 'Rang' refers to the various colors of life, love, and relationships depicted in the story. Through various twists and turns, the movie showcases how love can conquer all. The movie is packed with beautiful and soul-stirring music composed by Nadeem-Shravan. The songs like "Tujhe Na Dekhu Toh Chain" and "Dil Cheer Ke Dekh" became an instant hit among the audience.
Jeetendra, who was a popular actor during the '80s and '90s, delivers an excellent performance as the strict father who struggles to come to terms with the fact that his son has fallen in love with a girl from a theatre background. Kamal Sadanah, who was just a few films old at that time, plays the role of the romantic hero with ease, and his on-screen chemistry with Amrita Singh is natural and convincing. Amrita Singh, who was known for her versatile acting skills, does a fantastic job portraying the role of Tina.
In conclusion, Rang is a heart-touching romantic drama that deals with the importance of love, relationships and the importance of accepting people from all backgrounds. The movie is still remembered for its powerful storyline, amazing performances, and soulful music. If you are a fan of romantic dramas, then Rang is a must-watch.
