Rambo 3 is an action movie that came out in the year 1988. It is the third installment of the Rambo series and was among the most entertaining. The story of the third film is quite simple. Rambo’s former commanding officer Trautman goes on a mission to help the Afghan freedom fighters in Afghanistan by providing them stinger missiles. They get this help because they are being invaded by the Soviet Union. Trautman is captured by the Soviets and therefore Rambo has to go into Afghanistan to rescue him. This movie was among the top action films of the year and is therefore one of the more appealing in this particular genre.

In the beginning Rambo is living in Thailand and participates in stick fights in order to make extra money and donate to monks. During this time Trautman is looking for him and eventually meets up with him at his home near a monastery site. He is approached by Trautman and a CIA official named Griggs. The CIA official hands him photos including one of a maimed boy and tells him that a war is taking place in Afghanistan. He also tells Rambo that they are seeking to give the Afghan freedom fighters stinger missiles so that they can continue to have the upper hand in the war. However there is one region where the Soviets have complete control and therefore they need to get the missiles to people in that particular region to help the Afghan freedom fighters ensure victory. Trautman tells Rambo that he is going in to assist in the mission. Despite this Rambo refuses and makes it clear that he has no interest in participating in any military combat operations anymore. Shortly after, Trautman follows him and tells him that his true calling is that of a combat soldier and that this is the kind of thing that he is meant to do. Rambo still tells Trautman that he doesn’t want to participate and that he will get back in touch with him once they return to the United States.

On the mission, Trautman and his crew are attacked and he himself is captured by a Soviet colonel. The CIA official tells him that Trautman was captured. Rambo decides to go in and rescue him and the CIA official gets him over to Afghanistan through neighboring Pakistan. In Pakistan Rambo meets a man named Mousa Ghani who is a native of Afghanistan and leads him into the country. He tells Rambo where Trautman is being held. They plan their operation infiltrate the Soviet base and free Trautman. However the first attempt fails as Rambo gets into a shootout and is forced to escape. The operation had casualties as a boy that accompanied Rambo and Ghani gets injured. On the next day Rambo goes back into the base and rescues Trautman. They escape by helicopter but it gets shot down. In the end Rambo and Trautman have one final battle with the Soviets and with the help of the Afghans, defeat the Soviets. Rambo and Trautman drive off and go home.

Rambo III is a 1988 action movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 41 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 5.8 and a MetaScore of 36.
