Raaja is a Bollywood film that was released in 1975. The movie stars Rishi Kapoor, Sulakshana Pandit, and Prem Chopra in the lead roles. Directed by K. Shankar, it is a touching story of a young man named Raaja who sets out to make a better life for himself and his family. The film starts with the introduction of Raaja, a bright and ambitious young man who lives in a small village in India. He is passionate about music and dreams of becoming a successful singer one day. However, his father disapproves of his interest in music and wants him to focus on his studies. Despite his father's objections, Raaja continues to sing and play the harmonium, often staying up all night rehearsing.
One day, Raaja meets a young woman named Geeta (Sulakshana Pandit) and falls in love with her. Geeta is also passionate about music and shares Raaja's dream of becoming a famous singer. They start performing together and soon gain a following in their village. However, their happiness is short-lived as Geeta's father disapproves of their relationship and arranges for her to marry someone else.
Heartbroken, Raaja decides to leave his village and move to Bombay (now Mumbai) to pursue his music career. He takes a train to Bombay, not knowing what to expect when he gets there. Once in Bombay, Raaja struggles to make ends meet and fulfill his dream of becoming a professional singer. He faces many challenges along the way, but his determination and hard work keep him going.
Raaja meets a wealthy businessman named Mr. Kapoor (Prem Chopra) who offers to help him achieve his dreams. Mr. Kapoor's daughter, Ritu (also played by Sulakshana Pandit) is also passionate about music and becomes Raaja's love interest in the film. However, Raaja's success comes at a cost, and he has to make some tough choices along the way.
The film is filled with soulful music, which adds to the emotions portrayed in the story. Rishi Kapoor's performance as Raaja is one of his best, and he brings a lot of depth and emotion to his character. Sulakshana Pandit shines in both of her roles, and her chemistry with Rishi Kapoor is palpable. Prem Chopra's portrayal of the wealthy businessman is impressive, and he brings a necessary element of conflict to the story.
The highlight of the film is the music, composed by Laxmikant Pyarelal, with lyrics by Anand Bakshi. The songs are timeless classics and are still popular with audiences today. Kishore Kumar and Lata Mangeshkar sing some of the most memorable songs in the movie, such as "Akele Hai To Kya Gum Hai," "Chhookar Mere Mann Ko," and "Bande Mein Tha Dum."
Overall, Raaja is a heartwarming movie that explores the themes of love, dreams, and perseverance. It is a must-watch for fans of classic Bollywood movies and provides a window into the filmmaking of the 1970s. The film has aged well and still resonates with audiences today.
