Queen of Earth is a 2015 psychological thriller directed by Alex Ross Perry and starring Elisabeth Moss, Katherine Waterston, and Patrick Fugit. The film tells the story of two best friends, Catherine and Virginia, who spend a week at a lakeside house to escape their troubles. But as the week goes by, their relationship becomes strained and their pasts begin to haunt them.

The film opens with Catherine (Elisabeth Moss) crying uncontrollably, with her boyfriend James (Kentucker Audley) trying to console her. It is revealed that Catherine's father has recently died, which has sent her into a deep depression. James tells her that he needs to leave for a business trip and won't be able to be there for her, so Catherine calls her best friend Virginia (Katherine Waterston) to come stay with her at her family's lakeside house.

When Virginia arrives, Catherine is still in a fragile state, and the two of them quickly fall into old patterns of behavior. Catherine is clingy and needy, while Virginia is more self-involved, and their conversations often turn into arguments. As the days go by, their relationship becomes more and more strained, with each of them resenting the other for different reasons.

Interspersed with the present-day scenes are flashbacks to the previous summer, when Catherine and James were staying at the same house. The flashbacks reveal that Catherine was not always so fragile and that something happened during that summer that caused her to change. We see her growing increasingly paranoid and anxious, to the point of imagining that she sees her deceased father in the woods outside the house.

Back in the present day, Catherine's behavior continues to become more erratic. She becomes fixated on a neighboring couple, who she believes are spying on her, and her mood swings become more extreme and unpredictable. Meanwhile, Virginia begins to reveal her own vulnerabilities, admitting to Catherine that she has been struggling with her own personal problems.

The tension between Catherine and Virginia reaches a boiling point on the final night of their stay at the house. Both of them confront each other about their flaws and insecurities, leading to a shocking and unexpected climax.

Queen of Earth is a dark and atmospheric film, with a haunting score by Keegan DeWitt and beautiful cinematography by Sean Price Williams. The performances by Moss and Waterston are both exceptional, with Moss in particular delivering a tour-de-force performance as the deeply troubled Catherine. The film is a meditation on the nature of friendship, mental illness, and the ways in which our pasts can influence our present.

Overall, Queen of Earth is a haunting and intense film that will stay with you long after it's over. It's a must-see for fans of psychological thrillers and character-driven dramas.

Queen of Earth is a 2015 drama with a runtime of 1 hour and 30 minutes. It has received mostly positive reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 6.2 and a MetaScore of 77.
